Digging the Well
Dear Bloggers, I can happily inform you that my recent trip to Malawi was a great success ALL THE PHOTOS I HAVE ON THIS BLOG WERE TAKEN WITH THE NOKIA 5800. The group from DIT sponsored by DITSU and DIT Societies achieved all of our set out goals and more than we could have imagined;

The group, and I were based around an Orphan day care centre in one of the most disadvantaged areas of Mzuzu, Salsberryline. During the time there, our collective labour and donations enabled us to create a clean water source for over 250 two – six year old children, who attend the orphan day care centre, and prepare the nearby land for cultivation which will supplement the children’s diet in the coming months, we have allocated a large amount of our raised money to the running of the Orphan day care centre for the next 6 months. We also laid the floor in a newly built agricultural college which will show the poorest people of Malawi how to get the most from the small amount of land they have. But most importantly we created real connection with some of the children there who were in desperate need of some attention, love and care.

During our stay in Mzuzu we worked with a youth group, we exchanged cultures and spoke about our values and cultures. We learned about the work they were doing in rural villages teaching about contraception and aids. We had the opportunity to work with the street children of Muzuzu, we met them in St. John of Gods where they can avail of meals, partial schooling and washing facilities. We had a football tournament for the boys and a netball tournament for the girls.
During our stay we made many friends and shared amazing experiences. We let the people of Malawi know that there people out there that do care. You can read more about this amazing and innovative charity that we travelled with at www.wellsforzoe.org.

Celebrity Solicitor Gerald Keane will entertain over 200 students and
invited guests at the inaugural DIT BAM (Business and Marketing Ball).

The ball is being run in aid of the Lucan based charity Wells for Zoe

second major event run by the Business and Marketing Society, with a
visit by Bill Cullen in February attracting national media attention.
About the Business and Marketing Society:
One of the main aims of BAM, which was founded in September 2008, is
to bring inspiring and relevant guest speakers into DIT students to
encourage entrepreneurship.
