Don Mullan Exhibition - 23rd - 28th of April

Thursday 23rd of April will see Don Mullan exhibit his collection of beautiful and compelling photos taken using his N95 handset. The exhibition will take place in Gallery Number One, 1 Castle Street, Dublin 2 and runs until Tuesday, April 28th.

Don decided he wanted to photograph the world, and has spent the past few years on a unique journey capturing candid images across continents with his Nokia N95.
A little bit about Don:
Don, an Irish humanitarian and media producer, was born in Derry in 1956. For the past number of years, Don, sponsored by Nokia, has been travelling the world helping good causes and capturing a number of powerful, emotional pictures that tell their own story.
He has received Honorary Degrees from Iona College, New Rochelle, New York (1997) and Mount Aloysius College, Cresson, Pennsylvania (2001). In March 1998 he was Grand Marshal of the San Diego St. Patrick’s Day Parade.
On December 9, 2002, Mullan received A Defender of Human Dignity Award from the International League for Human Rights at the United Nations, New York.
In October 2003 he received from the AOH of America the Sean MacBride Humanitarian Award.
He has also been published in The Irish Times, The Irish Independent, Ireland on Sunday, The Sunday Tribune, The Examiner, Magill Magazine, la Repubblica (Italy),The Times (London), The Guardian, Journal do Brasil and Irish America.
Possibly Don’s most notable achievement was his attendance at the inauguration of President Nelson Mandela as the guest of Archbishop Desmond Tutu in recognition of his work on behalf of the anti Apartheid Movement.

Don’s visit to NUIG

Don Mullan visited NUIG on Tuesday 24th of February to tell his story and promote Nokia’s involvment with the Smedia’s. He also brought along over 70 photo’s he had taken over the past few years with his Nokia N95 camera phone. The clarity of the photo’s was unbelievable, even when projected onto a large screen.
Don also helped launch the Phontography competition which is open to all students of NUIG. The competition is running on facebook at the moment and will be open until March 20th. The winner of the competition will receive a Nokia 6220 with built in 5mp camera.
